Description

Actually not a lot to say about this one. She was the second part of *Ric-M's commission, and she was the one I spent the most time sketching and really the reason finishing this commission took me so long -- not because drawing her was very hard once I started doing it, but more because of my own hesitancy with drawing people since I don't have a lot of experience with it. With this piece, there was a few times where I'd come to something I hadn't done before -- like her hand holding that paintbrush, for example -- know what I want to put on the page, then freak out, fail to visualize it and thus fail to draw it. It took some time, but I was finally able to overcome that stuff and get the girl all finished up. :)

Her pose was something I knew almost from the get-go. In the beginning, I was trying to decide how I was going to show her painting while still being able to see her face. A few ideas were tossed around, including a close-up shot of her at work at the canvas and an over-the-shoulder shot showing her painting my toonsona (as a way to sort of weasel myself in there ;P). Yeah, an early concept I wound up scrapping was Arianna and my guy were either best friends or dating, and they'd often spend a lot of time hanging out together -- whether it was playing videogames or making art. It's a neat concept, and I wouldn't mind revisiting it one of these days.

Anyway, returning to this piece here, I finally settled on the pose you see above, and it stuck long before I'd started the sketch. As for her design -- from her hair to her attire -- I didn't want to deviate too much from the Arianna standard look, but on the other hand, her usual getup isn't the most practical for painting in. So, I took off her zip-up hoodie/vest and striped long-sleeve shirt since she probably wouldn't want to get paint on those and gave her instead a simple t-shirt that she'd probably be fine making a mess in. I was lucky that *Ric-M had drawn a variation of her with a ponytail...
(bottom mugshot on the right. Tried to upload the thumbnail, but dA is being stupid about it so... a link's all ya get, I guess.)
... as it took a little bit of the design guesswork off of my shoulders. I knew that if she was painting, she'd probably tie her hair back as most ladies tend to do, so I was glad he had gone ahead and conceptualized that for me. ;P

Hm. I guess I had more to say than I thought. All in all, I think she came together rather nicely. :)

Fun fact: Arianna stands at about 5 1/2 heads tall. If her head is the standard human height of 10 inches, that puts her at roughly 4'7" but if you take into consideration that it's a cartoon character's head and thus slightly larger -- i.e. 12 inches, that puts her at a more normal height of 5'6"... or 5 inches shorter than me and -- consequently -- my toonsona.
